Welcome to Bol!
The world famous tourist town Bol is situated on the southern part of the sunniest of the Adriatic islands, the island of Brac. It is the oldest town on the island and also one of the most desirable destinations on the Adriatic.
Wide sandy and pebble beaches extending over ten kilometers, as well as numerous freshwater springs have made Bol the primary tourist oasis on the island of Brac.
On the west and the east part of Bol there are numerous beaches of which the most popular one is the beach of white gravel - Zlatni rat (“Golden Bay”), which spreads in a thong shape to the south in the longitude of 634m. Zlatni rat is a paradise for surfers, kite surfers and all those who enjoy the water sports.
The coronet of Bol hills, the Illyrian fortress Kostilo (660 m) and the Vidova gora (778 m) - the highest top of the Adriatic islands are rising above Bol.
Bol is only 15 km away from the international tourist and sports airport "Brac", and it is connected with the fast lines to the coast, and with a ferry- line from Split- Supetar.
Bol fascinates with crystal clear water, wonderful nature and the virgin beauty of the stony island houses that Croatian poet Tin Ujevic sung about. This little town has kept its Mediterranean spirit.
A rich history of Bol which dates back to ancient times is evidenced by numerous archaeological findings and monuments.
The Roman water cistern, tombstones, numerous reliefs, Romanesque church of Sts. John and Tudor (11th century), the Bishop's residence (12th century), the church of Madonna of Mercy (15th century.), fortified gothic summer mansion (15th century), Renaissance Baroque palace with a valuable gallery of contemporary Croatian art by 'Branislav Dešković' (17th century) and the local church of Madonna of Caramel (18th century) are just some of them.
A special importance for the spiritual and cultural life of Bol was the founding of the Dominican community in 1462, and the construction of the Monastery in 1475 which today keeps the collections of pre- historical and ancient maritime archeology, Roman and early Croatian architecture and sculpture, a numismatic collection, and collections of incunabula and sacral objects. The museum has also a painting of Madonna with child and Saints from the Venetian painter Tintoretto from 1563.
Bol offers you supreme luxury accommodation in hotels, apartments and villas. Beside a great number of little restaurants by the sea, discotheques and clubs, this place offers relaxing moments followed by traditional Dalmatian song so called Dalmatian “ klapa” (a capella songs), concerts of prominent singers, theatre, and art exhibitions of popular Croatian artists who have found their moments of inspiration in the silence of Bol. As the biggest tourist centre on the island, Bol offers its guests twenty playing-grounds, a big tennis stadium with 1820 sitting places that every year gathers the world tennis elite as guests of the famous tennis tournament of the Adriatic Riviera and WTA Croatian Bol Ladies Open.
Bol is ideal for the lovers of football, volleyball, basketball, biking, the extreme sports (trekking, free climbing...) and the water sports like diving and windsurfing. In the aquatorium of Bol you will find a true paradise for surfers, always attractive because of the extraordinary good winds (Maestral) that blow in Brač-Hvar sea channel.
As a souvenir from your holidays in Bol, take with you small "stone or sea shelf of happiness" that you found on the Zlatni rat!
