Brac is Croatian island in the Adriatic situated in front of the city of Split. Brac is the largest island in Dalmatia and the third largest island in the Adriatic Sea. This unique island has numerous smaller and largeer picturesque villages of which following are inhabited: Bobovisca, Bobovisca na Moru, Bol, Dol (Marina), Dracevica, Lower Humac, Upper Humac, Lozisca, Milna, Mirca Murvica, Nerezisca, Novo Selo, Podhume, Marina, Povlja, Praznica, Pucisca, Split, Sumartin, Supetar, Sutivan, Selce and Skrip.
Bobovisca is small place located on the western part of the island of Brac, 2-3 kilometers from Lozisca, on the road to Milna. In the bay under there is a place called Bobovisca on the sea. Situated in a beautiful bay the place is made up of two ports: the calm port Bobovisca, very attractive for many boaters and Vicja port - one of the most important sites with the findings of the Illyrian-Greek civilization. Bay continues into deep gorge, famous gathering place for free-climbers.
Bobovisca just like many other localities of the island of Brac has a rich historical heritage. During your stay here you must visit Roman and Byzantine archaeological artifacts found in the port Bobovisca. Also you shouldn’t miss to visit the parish church of St. George from 17th century and early medieval church of St. Martin, situated on a hill above the village. In nearby Port Vicja there is a location with various findings, items and weapons from the 4th and 5th century B.C.
Bobovisca at Sea have the most beautiful castle on the island, which dates from the 18th century. This fort is owned by the family Gligo, and today serves as a residential building. In the basement of this building there is a large opening for the canon, while the walls are adorned with the fort hatches for rifles. The beautiful garden contains a stone table, once used as the base for a wooden stick for mashing grapes.
In Bobovisca at Sea, you will be pleasantly surprised and warmly welcomed by the monument built in honor to Vladimir Nazor, a famous Croatian poet originally from this area. On the hill above the beach Kargadur there are three pillars very similar to ancient pillars, which the poet had built in honor of his three sisters.
Bobovisca today are a quiet place with approximately 100 inhabitants. Apart from fishing, the small population of Bobovisca is engaged with agriculture, vineyards and olive groves.
